Living on one dollar a day
Go watch "Living On One Dollar" on Netflix. What does this documentary illustrate about the difficulty of living in extreme poverty? What are some solutions to helping the extreme poverty. The documentary illustrates the hardships associated with poverty and the fact that many people take money for granted, but these people are out in the streets and getting food with the money people give them, usually a couple of coins, which end up being around one dollar. Some solutions to helping the extreme poverty include donating old shoes and clothes that are not in use anymore, along with money donations, and just surprising the poor on the streets. The solutions that are the most effective are the ones that have the biggest impact, like a hotel room for one night, a nice dinner, and 10 to 20 dollars to help pay for food and some nice clothes.

ReplyDeleteThe documentary illustrates how hard it is living in extreme poverty. Many of the families were farmers and did not have a stable income. As a result, there would be days where they would starve. Most of the children also did not have a well balanced diet as their diet mainly consisted of flour products, lard, and bean products. Because families could not afford clothes, school supplies, and other fees, they could not afford to send their children to school. This made it hard for children to get stable jobs in the future. Some solutions that could help extreme poverty include the 'money circle' outlined in the film and the loan programs made available to the people. The money circle was helpful as it gave families a large sum of money at one time that they could use towards bigger purchases such as an oven. However, I think the most effective solution was the loan programs for the people to help them start their own businesses. Since most do not have a stable income, they cannot get a loan from the bank. With more loan programs to help the people, they can start and expand their own businesses.
